Reivindicaciones de los años 60. Antes
de que existieran el mercado y la industria musicales, la canción popular era
entretenimiento y también mensaje. Nunca ambos se combinaron con tanta fuerza y
expresividad como en la música negra de los años 60, coincidiendo con los
movimientos por los derechos civiles. Las canciones hablan de orgullo racial,
de talento, prejuicios, reivindicaciones, consignas y también de amor. Por eso la
llamaron soul music.
